Q Local™ 1.5 Download Instructions and Release Notes

If you aren't ready to upgrade to Q Local 2.0, you can still download Q Local 1.5 using the process on this page or you can request the 1.5 CD by contacting customer service.

These users MUST install from the CD:

Network version users who want to upgrade AND add a report counter, database or client to a computer that didn't already have the report counter, database or client installed on it must run the upgrade from a CD; do not use the download process on this page. Call Technical Support at 800-627-7271, option 3 to request the CD and explain that you'll be adding the report counter, database or client to a system that previously did not have one installed.

Q Local 1.5 Features

A new test is available: the MCCI™ (Millon™ College Counseling Inventory). The MCCI assessment is a 150-item, self-report, comprehensive personality assessment designed for use with college students.

A number of tests have been updated:

  • The MMPI®-2 (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory®-2) Extended Score Report and hand-scoring materials have added the Fake Bad Scale (FBS), which provides information regarding non-credible symptom reporting and has been found particularly useful in neuropsychological assessments.
  • BHI 2™ (Battery for Health Improvement 2)and BBHI™ 2 (Brief Battery for Health Improvement 2) exports now include additional dimensions of pain (Pain Range, Peak Pain, and Pain Tolerance).
  • The VIP® (Validity Indicator Profile) exports now include Response Style and additional Performance Curve measures.

Important Note: Q Local 1.5 software no longer supports the Windows NT® operating system.

How to Install the Q Local 1.5 Software Upgrade

To install the software upgrade, you'll take these six steps (each described below):

  1. Export your data so it is backed up:
    • Start your Q Local software.
    • Choose Files from the drop-down menus and then choose Import and Export.
    • Use the first import option (Export assessment records to a Q Local transfer file *.trq) to export all assessment records.
    • Then use the second import option (Export client demographics to an XML file *.xml) to export all demographics.
  2. Close any software applications. Close any software that is open.
  3. Download the upgrade file from within the Q Local software:
    • Open your Q Local software and choose System Updates from its home page:

      The software will display the "Step 1: Find System Updates" page.
    • Click the Find Updates button. The software will display the "Step 2" page which lists the available update, including the Release Date, Version and a link to notes about the Release:

    • Start to download the update file by clicking the Download button. You'll be shown the location that the update file will be downloaded onto your computer. (Unless you choose a different location, it will be in your My Documents folder within your C:\Documents and Settings folder.)
    • Click the Save button to save the file as it's downloaded.
    • The progress of the download is displayed.
    • When the "Download Successful" message is displayed, click OK. An additional message is displayed:

    • Choose Yes to exit the completed download and the Q Local software. (The upgrade to your Q Local software will NOT start automatically.)
  4. Before the installation, disable firewall / virus / spyware software
    • McAfee® and Norton™ software: In your system tray (bottom right – near the clock – on your computer screen) right-click your firewall, virus or spyware software icon and choose to Disable it. Once Q Local software is installed, you can re-enable your other software. Otherwise it should be re-enabled once you reboot your computer. (Illustrations follow.)Disable Firewall/Virus/Spyware
    • The illustrations above show how to disable some protection options. Your software may vary. The Norton example shows a system with antivirus protection but no firewall protection. The McAfee example shows a system with McAfee Security Center and VirusScan and Personal Firewall programs within the Security Center.
    • Other firewall / virus / spyware software: If you have other software protecting your system, it may try to prevent file access and copying during the Q Local installation. Make sure to disable it until the Q Local installation is complete. Once Q Local software is installed, you can re-enable your other software. Otherwise it should be re-enabled once you reboot your computer.
  5. Run the upgrade file from your computer. Start the upgrade manually:
    • Locate and double-click the Q Local Upgrade 1.5.12.exe file in your My documents folder. A window similar to the following window is displayed:

    • Click the Unzip button. 10 files will be unzipped and a success message will be displayed.
    • Click OK.
    • Double-click on the setup.exe file in the C:\Program Files\Pearson\Q Local Upgrade 1.5.12 folder. The upgrade InstallShield Wizard will start.
    • Click Next. You'll be reminded to close firewall / virus / spyware software (#2 above)
    • Click OK.
    • A progress bar is displayed as the software is upgraded. Then the message "Please wait while we configure the database" is displayed. Finally, an "Update Complete" message is displayed.
    • Click Finish.
  6. After the installation, re-enable firewall / virus / spyware software
    • Re-enable your firewall / virus / spyware software. Otherwise it should be re-enabled once you reboot your computer.

    Once the upgrade is complete, you can try out your updated software.
